Job Description

JOB TITLE: Drafter

REPORTS TO: Lead Design Engineer

FLSA: Non-exempt

JOB SUMMARY: This role provides drafting support to the Design Engineers, Mold Designers, Project Engineers, Automation Engineers, and Quality Engineers. Primary responsibilities will be creating precise 2D/3D technical drawings and models using Solidworks software, translating concepts into detailed plans for tool designs that will enable the production of equipment and tools needed to manufacture plastic injection molded components and subassemblies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Produce detailed 2D/3D drawings, schematics, and models using Solidworks.
  1. Work closely with engineers to understand project requirements.
  1. Ensure designs meet specifications and quality standards.
  1. Attend Design Review meetings with technical team.
  1. Implement changes from redlines, edit existing drawings, and prepare final sets for submission.
  1. Review other mold and automation designs and drawings.
  1. Estimate material quantities and sometimes costs for designs.
  1. Create manuals and documentation for existing products or designs.
  1. Performs other duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Education/Experience. High school education coursework or GED required. Experience in manufacturing or manufacturing experience in plastic injection molding preferred.
  1. Computer Skills. Ability to operate personal computer. Ability to learn software required to perform job functions (i.e. Solid Works software). Experience with Microsoft Office Products required.
  2. Language Skills. Proven written and oral communication skills necessary. Ability to read, comprehend, and utilize instructions and short correspondence with professionals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees.
  3. Mathematical Skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratios, percent and use trigonometry. Ability to read and understand complicated designs and drawings.
  4. Reasoning Ability. Ability to solve technical issues and deal with a number of variables. Ability to follow and interpret verbal and written instructions.
  5. Other Skills and Abilities. Willingness to attend conferences or training to enhance and update knowledge and skills. Occasional travel may be requested for company business. Overtime may be required to meet work demands.
  6. Work Environment. The duties of this job are executed in a climate-controlled environment with few temperature or humidity extremes. Noise levels will vary from very low to moderate depending on the location that the work is performed within the facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee may have contact with machining residues such as steel chips, grinding dust, EDM smoke, cutting oils and coolants. Safety glasses are required.
