Position Overview
The role involves providing professional nursing care in the surgical environment for patients undergoing various procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scrub duties, including selecting and managing instruments and supplies for procedures.
- Perform circulating responsibilities, which include monitoring and documenting patient conditions, as well as overseeing nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
- Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks such as hemostasis, suturing, and patient positioning.
- Prepare operating rooms and ensure surgical instruments and equipment are ready for use.
- Utilize evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge to deliver nursing care tailored to the patient's age and clinical needs, as outlined in the department's Scope of Service.
- Adhere to professional nursing standards as defined in our practice model, guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
- Maintain a state of alertness and safety at all times.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent educational background for licensing.
- Experience: No prior experience is necessary.
Physical Requirements
- Regular verbal communication is essential.
- Frequent standing and walking are required.
- Ability to lift, carry, and push/pull objects weighing up to 25 lbs regularly.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, and data entry tasks.
- Visual acuity for near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, including color differentiation.
- Frequent use of smell for odor recognition and hearing for communication and alarms.
- Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25-50 lbs and moving patients.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and other physical movements.
- Rarely required to crawl or run.
Licensure and Certifications
- Location: Missouri
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Missouri Division of Professional Registration or a Compact State RN license.
