Think in thousandths. See solutions others miss. At Klein Tools (Trevose, PA), we’re looking for a hands-on Toolmaker who can turn prints into production-ready dies, fixtures, jigs, and gauges. You’ll work on-site from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM EDT, shaping components, assembling tooling, and proving performance.

Role snapshot

  • Plan fabrication from sketches, blueprints, specifications, and models with an eye on safety, precision, and efficiency.
  • Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, and grinders; machine parts and confirm tolerances.
  • Assemble, repair, and modify dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges using hand and powered tools.
  • Design and build jigs/templates that streamline repeat builds.
  • Troubleshoot and correct tooling issues; operate dies and progressive dies during checks and adjustments.
  • Measure using dial indicators, gauge blocks, calipers, micrometers, and related instruments to verify all critical dimensions.
  • Review existing tooling and recommend design or functional improvements.
  • Convert general concepts into working specifications; sketch tool designs as needed.
  • Keep the toolroom audit-ready under 6S standards; perform additional related tasks as assigned.

Must-haves

  • High school diploma/GED and 3+ years of tool and die experience; Associate degree or vocational Tool & Die credential preferred.
  • Depth in machine/tool operation, maintenance, and repair; practical knowledge of design techniques and tooling principles.
  • Blueprint literacy including dimensions/tolerances; confident with micrometers, indicators, and height gauges.
  • Competency in basic math and trigonometry.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English.

Physical requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, or sitting; frequent hand use handling parts/tools; reaching; stair climbing; balancing.
  • At times stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; ability to talk/hear; taste/smell as required.
  • Lift or move up to 35 lbs occasionally.
  • Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
