Position Summary
The Quality Technician/Inspector supports manufacturing operations by ensuring product quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance. This role is responsible for inspecting raw materials and finished products, maintaining quality documentation, supporting audits, and driving continuous improvement to ensure products meet internal quality standards and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Food Safety
- Support and maintain Quality and Food Safety Programs, including compliance with recognized food safety standards
- Assist in the development and delivery of quality and food safety training programs and procedures
- Ensure adherence to all quality and food safety policies; escalate concerns to management as needed
Inspection & Testing
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of raw materials and finished goods across all printing and converting stations
- Conduct required quality testing, including destructive, in-process, attribute, variable, and Green Bond testing
- Perform equipment start-ups and quality approvals for production equipment
- Audit rejected, reworked, or customer-returned materials
Documentation & Records
- Document and communicate customer specifications; maintain specification databases and files
- Maintain production specifications, run conditions, retain samples, logs, and storage inventory
- Maintain quarantine hold logs and oversee quarantine areas
- Accurately document inspection results, test data, and corrective actions
Audits, Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with internal audits and assessments to ensure compliance with quality objectives and procedures
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions related to customer complaints or product nonconformance
- Participate in meetings, investigations, salvage reviews, and special projects as assigned
Equipment & Lab Management
- Maintain, operate, and calibrate all quality inspection and testing equipment
- Maintain accurate calibration records and equipment inventories
- Keep the quality lab clean, organized, and audit-ready
Training & Communication
- Train employees on inspection techniques, work instructions, GMPs, and Food Safety Program requirements
- Communicate quality issues immediately to the Quality Assurance Manager or appropriate company leadership
Qualifications
Required Skills & Attributes
- Basic knowledge of quality testing methods (destructive, in-process, attribute, and variable)
- Strong attention to detail with a quality-critical and continuous improvement mindset
- Effective problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High level of accountability, organization, and time management
- Excellent color acuity and vision (corrected if necessary)
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel)
- Proactive, inquisitive, and persistent approach
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of quality expectations, tolerances, and acceptable defect rates
- Willingness to pursue ongoing education, certifications, or training
