Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field, active Deaf & Hard of Hearing (DHH) certification, and 1+ years Deaf & Hard of Hearing Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A full-time Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist position is available for the 2025-2026 school year at an early childhood school in Washington, DC. This contract role focuses on providing specialized support to a preschool student with sensorineural hearing loss in both ears. The ideal candidate will possess fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) to effectively municate and foster a positive learning environment for the student.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing individualized education plans tailored to the students needs
- Providing direct ASL instruction and support to facilitate language acquisition and munication
- Collaborating with educators, therapists, and families to create an inclusive classroom experience
- Monitoring student progress and adapting teaching strategies accordingly
- Assisting in the evaluation and management of hearing devices and acmodations
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential
- Experience working with young children who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Strong understanding of sensorineural hearing loss and its educational implications
- Ability to create engaging, accessible, and developmentally appropriate learning activities
- Excellent munication and collaboration skills
