The Traffic Clerk is responsible for coordinating and tracking inbound and outbound shipments at the manufacturing site. This role acts as the central point of contact between carriers, warehouse staff, production, and shipping—similar to a dispatcher—ensuring materials and finished goods move efficiently, accurately, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule, dispatch, and coordinate inbound and outbound freight with carriers and drivers
- Check in/out truck drivers and verify shipment documentation (BOLs, packing slips, manifests)
- Communicate load status, delays, and changes to internal teams (warehouse, production, logistics)
- Track shipments and update transportation logs and systems in real time
- Assign dock doors and manage truck flow to avoid congestion or delays
- Ensure shipments meet delivery schedules and customer requirements
- Resolve transportation issues such as late arrivals, missing paperwork, or incorrect loads
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, carrier performance, and delivery times
- Follow safety, security, and company policies at all times
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1–3 years of experience in traffic, dispatch, logistics, shipping, or manufacturing environment preferred
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills (ERP, TMS, Excel, email)
- Strong attention to detail and time management
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with carriers, freight scheduling, or dispatching
- Familiarity with manufacturing or warehouse operations
- Knowledge of shipping documents and transportation terminology
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and warehouse setting
- Frequent interaction with drivers, warehouse staff, and production teams
- May require standing, walking, and working around forklifts and truck traffic
