Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support and enhance our manufacturing processes across machining and assembly lines. This role focuses on driving continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, and productivity, while ensuring compliance with established engineering and operational processes.
Responsibilities
- Support manufacturing process engineering activities across machining and assembly lines.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, and productivity.
- Apply FPS principles and adhere to KUP and Operating Processes in engineering solutions.
- Develop and implement action plans to investigate and resolve quality concerns in internal and supplier processes.
- Lead and conduct process audits to ensure compliance with Vehicle Operations guidelines.
- Create process documentation and instruction sheets to support quality methods.
- Provide timely and effective responses to production requirements and issues.
- Collaborate with production teams in daily meetings to drive engineering actions that improve JPH and First Time Through (FTT) metrics.
- Plan and execute engineering projects, including tooling improvements and layout changes.
- Coordinate with Forward Planning and Manufacturing Engineering teams to manage process changes.
- Support the purchase, commissioning, and debugging of new equipment, including participation in Machine Witness at vendor sites.
- Lead machining of prototype parts and manage prototype program delivery schedules.
- Collaborate with Product Teams, MEO, Production Teams, and suppliers to develop optimal processes (e.g., gauging, torque strategies, in-process testing).
- Respond to product design and plant-based program changes with feasibility, cost, and timing assessments.
- Provide engineering requirements for new model launch timing and metrics, including PTR runs.
- Liaise with external suppliers to support project work and ensure successful implementation.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
- Ability to create clear and effective process documentation.
- Experience in quality assurance and corrective action planning.
- Proficiency in conducting process audits and implementing improvements.
- Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills for cross-functional teamwork.
- Project planning and execution capabilities, especially in tooling and layout optimization.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience.
- 8D and 5Why corrective action and problem-solving skills.
- Lean Tools: 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.
- DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) Project Methodology experience.
- TQM and PPAP, and DOEs experience.
- Visual Factory Management.
- Ergonomic analysis knowledge and experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Work Environment
This position operates within a manufacturing/production/assembly environment. The role involves collaboration with various teams and suppliers to optimize processes and ensure successful project implementation.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Lima, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $46.00/hr.
