Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A dynamic opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support communication accessibility within an educational setting. This role involves providing high-quality interpretation services to students and staff, facilitating effective communication and inclusion in classroom and school activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret oral communication into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction and school events.
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
- Attend IEP meetings and other school-related functions as requested.
- Travel between various school locations within the region as required to fulfill assignment duties.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics in all communications and interactions.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficient in American Sign Language with certification or relevant training preferred.
- Experience interpreting in educational environments or similar settings.
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and sensitivity toward students with hearing impairments.
- Ability to manage travel requirements effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
