Job Title: Civil Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated civil engineering professional to support a variety of design, permitting, and construction-related tasks under the guidance of senior engineers. This role offers a mix of office and field responsibilities, including construction observation, technical documentation, basic analysis and design work, and preparation of reports and calculations for earthwork-focused projects. Additional activities may involve environmental sampling, GPS-based construction staking, and routine coordination with clients, contractors, and project partners.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, permitting, and construction-related tasks under senior engineers' guidance.
  • Conduct construction observation and prepare technical documentation.
  • Perform basic analysis and design work for earthwork-focused projects.
  • Prepare reports and calculations related to project tasks.
  • Engage in environmental sampling and GPS-based construction staking.
  • Coordinate routinely with clients, contractors, and project partners.
  • Travel to project sites, which may require extended time on location.
  • Work on unique projects across various states, including MN, ND, SD, MT, and WY.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 1+ year of experience in civil engineering tasks.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D software.
  • Experience in site development or grading (1+ years).
  • Field experience (1+ years).
  • Knowledge of drainage, design, land development, grading, soil analysis, and geotechnical aspects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in geotechnical engineering or understanding of soils/geosynthetics is ideal.
  • Willingness to learn modeling and design aspects.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple responsibilities.

Work Environment

The position is based in Plymouth, MN, with a fieldwork component of about 40% of the time, increasing to 90% during summer. The role requires travel to various project locations across MN, ND, SD, MT, and WY, with potential assignments lasting 1–2 months. The work environment includes active construction and industrial sites, and safety training will be provided. Staff rotations allow for breaks and returns, ensuring a balanced work-life schedule. As part of a smaller team of about 30 people, you will work independently while having access to mentorship from a senior engineer.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hr.
