Position Overview:

We are seeking a talented Communications Specialist to support a Program Management Office within the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The successful candidate will develop and implement effective communication strategies to ensure stakeholders are informed, engaged, and aligned with USCG PMO objectives. This role requires strong writing and verbal communication skills to create compelling content and foster stakeholder collaboration for the success of transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication Strategy and Content Development:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans, including messages, media, and timing, to support USCG PMO program and project goals.
  • Create and edit written content, such as memorandums, reports, newsletters, and other publications, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency in messaging.
  • Develop communication materials, such as briefs, brochures, and web-ready content, in alignment with USCG PMO branding and messaging guidelines.

Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination:

  • Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder engagement activities, including meetings, events, and focus groups, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Support the design and development of strategic communication tools, such as Communication Action Plans, Stakeholder Matrices, and Playbooks, to enhance stakeholder buy-in and engagement.
  • Distribute communication materials to ensure timely and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Support for Transformation Initiatives:

  • Assist in communicating critical strategic initiatives, ensuring messages are clear, consistent, and relevant to leadership, mid-grade government civilian, and military personnel.
  • Collaborate with USCG PMO stakeholders to ensure communication products align with the Coast Guard Organizational Change Management Plan and support transformation goals.
  • Provide writing, editing, and design services to program and project teams to ensure high-quality communication deliverables.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two and a half (2.5) years of experience in communications.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
  • Developing and implementing communication plans and strategies.
  • Creating and editing written content for various audiences.
  • Coordinating stakeholder engagement activities and events.
  • Experience supporting:
  • Production of high-quality communication materials, such as reports, newsletters, and briefs.
  • Facilitation of effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Alignment of communication efforts with organizational objectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry certifications such as Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) or equivalent.
  • Experience in federal government or USCG communication initiatives.
  • Familiarity with tools such as CG Teams/SharePoint, CG Portal websites, or Microsoft Teams for communication and collaboration.
