Wilkes University invites applicants for an open Earth & Environmental Science high school teaching position in the Upward Bound Program for the summer session. Upward Bound is a federally funded Trio Program, which provides support to participants in their preparation for college and ultimately, in their higher education pursuits.

The successful candidate is responsible for implementing the academic component of the program by introducing to a small group of high school level students key Earth and space science concepts, including geology, atmospheric science, astronomy, and environmental studies, through hands-on activities and discussions. Emphasis will be placed on scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and the real-world applications of Earth and space sciences. A Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, and/or a related field is required. Experience working with high school students or in a college-preparatory program is preferred.

Please note that this is a part-time, temporary position with a competitive hourly wage. Summer program dates run from June 22nd through July 31st and classes are held throughout the week, Monday - Thursday (8:00 A.M. – 12:00P.M.). Teachers may or may not, work the whole 4 hours, depending on the class size and student need; minimum of two (2), 50 minute class periods, Monday - Thursday. The hired teacher will be informed of the schedule ahead of time.
