Position Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of a laboratory chemical and supply distribution company. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting AP/AR, journal entries, month-end close, and assisting with costing, and compliance-related accounting activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a distribution environment with high transaction volume and regulated products.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, and recurring entries.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Perform account reconciliations (bank, AR, AP, inventory, prepaid expenses, fixed assets).
- Administrative assistance for Payroll, and benefits program.
- Sales and use tax, and other indirect taxes.
- Financial reporting: Income Statements, Balance Sheets.
- Assist with audit preparation, including schedules and supporting documentation.
- Freight claims management.
- Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Collaborate with purchasing, warehouse, logistics, and sales departments to resolve accounting discrepancies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience (public or industry).
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas).
- Experience working with ERP or accounting systems.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in distribution, manufacturing, or supply chain-based environments.
- Familiarity with inventory accounting and cost accounting
- Experience with regulated products (chemicals, laboratory supplies, pharmaceuticals)
- CPA or CPA-eligible (preferred but not required)
- Experience with sales and use tax compliance.
