Salary Range: $55,000 - $87,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and modify precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures according to engineering specifications.
  • Operate a variety of machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment to fabricate tool components.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on existing tooling to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Diagnose and repair worn or damaged tools, identifying root causes of failure and implementing effective solutions.
  • Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to guide tool fabrication and assembly.
  • Conduct precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and optical comparators to verify tool dimensions and tolerances.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize tool designs for manufacturing efficiency and product quality.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Proficiency in operating a wide range of manual and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs).
  • Expertise in interpreting complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Highly skilled in precision measurement using various instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators).
  • Strong knowledge of various materials (e.g., tool steels, carbides, aluminum) and their properties, including heat treatment processes.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair intricate tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam)
  • Experience with CNC machine operation and/or basic programming
  • Knowledge of various heat treatment processes for tool steels
  • TIG/MIG welding skills for tool repair and fabrication
  • Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, optical comparator)
