Job Description

I. General Summary

Under direct supervision performs delegated functions including those of a Sterile Processing Technician. Assignments depend on the level of training completed. This position is a training role for the Sterile Processing Technician position

II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Learns under the guidance of trained professionals the roles of Sterile Processing Technician.
  • Develops, demonstrates, and articulates an understanding of the sterile environment including but not limited to sterilization techniques, implementation of aseptic technique, instrument handling, supply chain management, and equipment setup.
  • Develops and articulates an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the personnel working in Perioperative Services.

Qualifications

III. Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED is required).
  • Currently enrolled in, accepted into, or has completed an approved Sterile Processing training program.

IV. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to learn and apply various patient care techniques, such as, routine patient care practice, aseptic technique, fire and safety, and infection prevention.

  • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required to work with patients, visitors, and other healthcare team members successfully to foster optimal quality of patient care.
