Alivia Specialty Pharmacy is seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychologist Specialist to join our Clinical Programs Team. This new role provides psychological and emotional support to patients with chronic, complex specialty and oncology conditions. The Psychologist Specialist will work closely with pharmacists, nurses, and case managers to support patients’ mental and emotional well-being to enhance their adherence to therapy and improve overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual psychological support and counseling to patients initiating or continuing specialty and oncology treatments.
- Assess patients’ emotional and mental health needs related to diagnosis, treatment, medication side effects, and overall well-being for potential referrals.
- Collaborate with clinical pharmacists, nurses, and case managers to integrate psychological support into overall patient care.
- Offer crisis intervention and mental health first aid when appropriate.
- Conduct patient follow-up sessions virtually or by phone, in coordination with care team workflows.
- Develop patient-facing educational content focused on mental health strategies during specialty treatment.
- Refer patients to external behavioral health services when additional or long-term care is needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all interventions and outcomes in the patient care system.
- Contribute to internal team training to promote awareness of psychosocial dynamics in specialty care.
- Support ongoing clinical program development by identifying gaps in mental health support and proposing evidence-based solutions.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology.
- Active licensure to practice psychology in Puerto Rico.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in oncology, chronic illness, or specialty pharmacy settings.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) strongly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary care team and with patients via telehealth or phone.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience supporting patients with cancer, autoimmune diseases, HIV, or other chronic health conditions.
- Familiarity with motivational interviewing, or other behavioral health frameworks used in chronic care.
- Empathy-driven and culturally sensitive approach to patient care.
- Knowledge of specialty pharmacy workflows is a plus.
