POSITION:Director of Accounting - Property Management


REPORTS TO: Controller


FLSA STATUS: Full-time, Exempt


COMPENSATION:The position offers a competitive salary based on experience, and a benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, and an employer sponsored 403(b) plan.


SUMMARY: The Director of Accounting Property Management is responsible for leading the accounting function for Impact Sevens property management portfolio, with primary accountability for the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of all property-level financial reporting.


This role oversees the property accounting team, establishes and enforces accounting processes and internal controls, and ensures consistent, high-quality financial reporting across the portfolio. The Director serves as the primary reviewer of property financials, working closely with Property Management and Asset Management to resolve issues, improve performance visibility, and support informed decision-making.

This position also plays a key role in system optimization and process improvement, including Yardi utilization, workflow standardization, and automation efforts, to improve efficiency and scalability of accounting operations.


ESSENTIAL EXPECTATIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of all property-level financial reporting.
  • Review and approve monthly financial statements across the portfolio.
  • Lead and manage property accounting staff, including workload, training, and performance.
  • Oversee monthly close process, including reconciliations, tie-outs, and issue resolution.
  • Establish and enforce standardized accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Serve as primary escalation point for property accounting issues.
  • Coordinate with Property Management and Asset Management to align financial results with operations.
  • Lead accounting setup for new properties, ensuring proper structure and reporting.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting and capital expenditure tracking.
  • Drive Yardi optimization, reporting improvements, and process automation.
  • Support audits, compliance, and lender/investor reporting requirements.


NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend appropriate meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain education and professional expertise through attendance at job-related seminars, conferences and workshops.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES: Supervise, direct and train accounting department staff and review their work products.


QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in Accounting required; CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred. 58+ years of progressive accounting experience, including property accounting or real estate finance, with demonstrated staff management experience. Strong technical accounting skills, including financial statement preparation, review, and internal controls. Experience with Yardi or similar systems preferred. Ability to identify issues, enforce standards, and drive process improvements across a decentralized portfolio, with strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work effectively across Property Management, Asset Management, and Accounting teams.


TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Proficient with MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with Sage MIP Fund Accounting and/or Yardi is preferred.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are required. Ability to communicate professionally and cultivate positive working relationships with a diverse range of people, both internal and external to the organization is essential. Communicate optimistically, positively, and with honesty and openness.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform, understand and interpret financial reports, including pro-forma income statements and balance sheets. Ability to do basic algebra is required. An understanding of percentages, rates of return and ratios is important.


REASONING SKILLS: Ability to balance expectations with available financial and human resources will be a critical requirement for the organizations long-term success.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The Director of Property Management Accounting must be able to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Good organizational skills and attention to detail are a must. Must be able to maintain confidentiality of all organizational information.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid drivers license with current vehicle insurance is required to meet the positions travel requirements, as needed.
