Job Description
The Cook plays a key role in preparing nutritious, high-quality meals for our patients and staff. You will work in collaboration with the kitchen team to ensure meals are prepared following dietary guidelines and special requests for patients. This position requires a passion for cooking, an understanding of food safety, and a commitment to contributing to a positive, supportive environment for both patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Culinary
- Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes, ensuring food meets quality, taste, and dietary requirements.
- Assist with meal plating and food presentation, ensuring meals are visually appealing and appetizing
- Continue to improve cooking skills through flexibility in assignments.
- Store leftovers and prep food using proper labeling and within timeframes.
- Inventory food items as assigned.
Safety/Sanitation
- Maintain appropriate records of food temperatures, production, waste and usage.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen area, following food safety guidelines (HACCP).
- Maintain a clean, sanitary work environment throughout shift according to the standards of the department, hospital and regulatory agencies.
Communications
- Communicate to Management all food quality and availability issues, equipment status, customer and staffing issues.
- Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication
- Participate in team meetings, providing input on menu suggestions, food quality, and patient feedback.
Safety
- Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
- Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
- Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
- Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers
- Attend carefully to important details
- Any other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
- Previous cooking experience in a healthcare, restaurant, or institutional setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to follow recipes and meal plans accurately.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow directions.
