Job Description
Job Description
Are you a sharp, driven accounting professional who thrives on ownership, precision, and building airtight processes? We are seeking a high-energy Staff Accountant to manage our day-to-day accounting operations.
This isn't a role where you can coast or hide in the background. Because we operate in the strict, fast-paced world of government contracting, accuracy and compliance are everything. If you are a disciplined go-getter who loves solving complex puzzles, taking initiative, and driving the month-end close to the finish line, you will thrive here. For the right person, this role offers a clear, earned pathway for professional growth and upward mobility.
Key Responsibilities
As our Staff Accountant, you will own the full cycle of our daily financial operations, ensuring total compliance and flawless execution.
- General Ledger & Month-End: Maintain and reconcile the general ledger ($GL$), prepare complex journal entries, perform account allocations, and drive the month-end close process.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable (AP/AR): Oversee full-cycle AP/AR. Ensure all vendor invoices are accurately coded, process timely disbursements (including checks), and manage customer invoicing (Net 30 and credit cards).
- Collections & Cash Flow: Actively manage open invoices and execute timely collections to keep cash flow optimized.
- Government Compliance & Billing: Review rigid government contract requirements, generate required government sales reports, and flawlessly submit invoices electronically through government portals.
- Data Integrity: Perform rigorous bank and account reconciliations, and maintain an immaculate, organized chart of accounts.
What to Expect (The Reality of the Role)
We want to be entirely transparent: this role is demanding. Government accounting involves strict compliance, tight deadlines, and meticulous documentation.
- The Pace: Fast-moving with hard deadlines. You must be able to pivot quickly without losing your attention to detail.
- The Work: Highly technical. You will need to dig into contract fine print and ensure our billing matches government regulations exactly.
- The Reward: If you want a predictable 9-to-5 where nothing changes, this isn't it. But if you want to sharpen your skills in a highly lucrative niche (GovCon) and prove you have leadership potential, we will fast-track your advancement.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 2–4 years of progressive experience as a Staff Accountant, Accountant, or senior-level Accounting Clerk.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with QuickBooks (or similar robust accounting ERP systems) is required.
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Principles), general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and full-cycle AP/AR.
- GovCon Knowledge: Prior experience with government contracting, DCAA compliance, or electronic government billing portals is a major plus (but we will train the right fast-learner).
- Mindset: Extreme ownership, strong organizational skills, and the grit to meet strict deadlines under pressure.
What We Offer
- Competitive Compensation: Generous base salary commensurate with your experience.
- Uncapped Career Advancement: We reward performance, not tenure. Show us what you can do, and your career will grow here.
- Stability: Work within a secure, well-established organization with steady pipelines.
- Benefits Package: [Insert health, dental, 401k details here].
