Position Overview:
The Medical Assistant (Non-Certified) supports providers and licensed nursing staff by performing routine clinical and administrative tasks in an outpatient setting. Under general supervision and within established policies, protocols, and standing orders, the MA assists with patient flow, prepares patients for visits, collects and documents clinical information, supports basic procedures, and helps coordinate labs, diagnostic tests, and referrals. This position is an entry pathway with required progression to Medical Assistant certification within established timelines. May be required to travel to perform work assignment at any ECFH Medical Clinic.
This position is non-licensed and differs from licensed nursing roles. The Medical Assistant (Non-Certified) may administer vaccines and perform approved clinical procedures per training and competency validation, they do so under standing orders, and organizational protocols. MAs do not independently take verbal orders or perform outside of approved protocols/standing orders and competency validation. Any clinical questions, abnormal findings, or patient safety concerns are promptly escalated to a licensed nurse or provider per clinic protocol.
What You Will Do:
- Assist providers and licensed nursing staff with routine clinical and administrative duties in an outpatient setting.
- Greet, room, and prepare patients for visits; obtain and document vital signs, medical history, medications, and allergies.
- Assist with examinations and routine procedures as delegated and per training and competency validation.
- Perform approved clinical tasks (as trained), which may include EKGs, ear lavage, hearing screening, diabetic Level I foot exams, venipuncture/phlebotomy, specimen collection, basic wound care, and CLIA-waived testing if assigned.
- Prepare charts and complete pre-visit audits per clinic workflow.
- Document patient care, procedures, and tasks accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
- Educate patients using approved materials and reinforce provider instructions; refers clinical questions to licensed staff or providers.
- Observe patients and promptly report abnormal findings, adverse reactions, or safety concerns to licensed staff.
- Support front desk and clinic operations as assigned.
- Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and clinical supplies.
- Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, PCMH, Meaningful Use, and organizational policies.
- Participate in training, cross-training, and quality improvement activities.
- Perform other duties within scope, training, and competency as assigned.
- Administer vaccinations only in accordance with provider orders, standing orders, and competency validation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- No experience required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (must obtain within 3 months of hire)
- Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
- Valid Driver's License
- Tuberculin Skin Test (TST).
- Hepatitis B Vaccine or Waiver.
- Annual Influenza Vaccine or Waiver.
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), read and write, preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to balance, bend, lift, carry, and pull up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, typically longer than four hours.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, or as needed.
- Manual dexterity and ability to use hands and fingers for feeling, grasping, and operating office equipment.
- Adequate hearing ability for communication and monitoring office environments.
- Good vision for reading documents, operating office equipment, and observing surroundings.
- Capability to stoop, crouch, crawl, or kneel as necessary for office tasks.
- Ability to talk clearly and effectively for communication.
- Ability to walk and move around the office environment.
- This position involves possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials.

- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens (Category I).
- Exposure to chemicals, reagents, fumes, and clinical equipment.
