Job Title: Payroll Assistant (Timekeeping & Payroll Support)

Contract Duration- 2-month contract with potential for conversion

Job Summary

We are hiring a Payroll Assistant (Timekeeper) to support a large healthcare organization within the public sector.

This role is responsible for maintaining accurate employee time and attendance records to ensure timely and compliant payroll processing. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, payroll knowledge, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities

Time & Attendance Administration

  • Review and process employee timesheets for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Monitor daily time entries, missed punches, and scheduling exceptions
  • Audit overtime, shift differentials, holiday pay, and premium pay eligibility
  • Ensure supervisor approvals are completed prior to payroll deadlines

Payroll Support

  • Prepare and submit approved time records for payroll processing
  • Investigate and resolve timekeeping discrepancies and errors
  • Reconcile payroll adjustments related to timekeeping issues
  • Maintain documentation supporting payroll transactions

Leave & Absence Tracking

  • Track employee leave including annual, sick, comp, FMLA, and other absences
  • Verify leave balances and ensure proper coding
  • Coordinate with internal teams on leave of absence cases
  • Update timekeeping systems based on employee status changes

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 2+ years of payroll/timekeeping experience
  • Experience handling garnishments, taxes, and year-end payroll processes
  • Strong analytical skills including retro pay calculations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in HR, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience with Oracle, PeopleSoft, or similar HRIS/payroll systems
  • Knowledge of union contracts and public sector payroll practices
  • Experience supporting large employee populations
