Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Remote Accounting & Finance Specialist to manage our full-cycle monthly close process and ensure compliance with multi-state financial regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, exceptional data entry accuracy, and proven experience in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monthly Close & Reporting:
- Execute the full monthly closing process, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled in a timely manner.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows.
- Perform account reconciliations (bank, general ledger, sub-ledgers) and variance analysis.
- Compliance & State Filings:
- Manage and process monthly insurance premium entries for approximately 30 different states.
- Ensure strict compliance with all state-specific financial and tax filing requirements related to premiums and other applicable finance matters.
- Maintain detailed records and supporting documentation for all compliance-related activities.
- General Accounting & Finance:
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as needed.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc financial analysis projects.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure proper classification of expenses and revenues.
- Collaborate with internal teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and financial reporting.
- Proven ability to manage and execute a timely and accurate monthly close process.
- Demonstrated experience with compliance-focused accounting tasks, particularly multi-state or multi-jurisdictional financial reporting and data entry.
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks,) and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy, especially when handling large volumes of transactional data like the state insurance premiums.
Education & Attributes:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Self-motivated and disciplined with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have a dedicated, professional home office setup and reliable internet connection.
