Position Overview:
The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at our facility serves as the initial recovery area for patients who have undergone surgical procedures or any interventions requiring general anesthesia.
Patients transition from our unit to a phase two area, which may include our ambulatory surgery center for discharge or one of our inpatient units. The acuity of patients can vary from straightforward medical-surgical cases to critically ill patients in need of intensive care skills, which are essential for nursing in the PACU.
Nurses who possess foundational knowledge and experience with ventilated patients, vasoactive infusions, airway management, chest tubes, drains, central lines, and arterial lines tend to excel in this environment.
We collaborate with a diverse range of surgeons, including those specializing in Genitourinary, Ear, Nose, and Throat, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Gynecology, and Bariatrics.
Nurses in the PACU are expected to care for both adult and pediatric patients and are required to be on-call during weekends and holidays. Our unit operates with a self-scheduling model, fostering a close-knit team dynamic.
Qualifications:
- Required Education: Nursing degree from an accredited institution
- Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Preferred Experience: Strong preference for candidates with critical care or Emergency Department RN experience
- License: Valid RN license in the state
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
