Key Accountabilities:
- Participate in technical interviews when hiring new Mold Makers
- Train new Mold Makers on proper PPE, good housekeeping/6S, machine and overall safety, CNC functions, and QMS work instructions relating to their role
- Effectively schedule staff for all breaks to assure production is uninterrupted, and staff are taking break and lunch in accordance with Micron policy
- Direct work activities by scheduling appropriate staff to each job based on skill level required
- Provide input on performance of staff to Engineering Manger for performance reviews
- Mentor and be available for questions and provide assistance when needed
- Report on shift performance. Reconcile shift operations on downtime, performance, quality (defects) and labor efficiency.
- Ensure work orders are entered in IQMS
- Provide input to the quoting team on mold designs, fixtures and tooling
- Perform all functions of the Mold Maker Role:
- Interface with other personnel to assist in the routing, planning, work instructions, problem solving, and expediting of molds and components on assigned jobs. Report and log work time accurately to jobs.
- Develop a plan for your activities, identify risks to completion, establish work priorities, set milestone goals, regularly assess the progress on the job, and escalate issues that will affect delivery.
- Utilize knowledge of various types of steel (H13, SS, S7, P20, etc.) and know their relative hardness levels to determine machining equipment needed for each
- Apply knowledge of all tool room equipment and fundamental set-ups (CNC, Milling Machine, Lathes, EDM) to achieve tight tolerance results.
- Read and understand blueprints, CAD files, written, and verbal work instructions to perform machining of mold components
- Fabricate mold components such as cores and cavities, fitting ejectors, heat treating and finish cutting, grinding to achieve the required dimensional specifications.
- Apply safety training & knowledge to operate all equipment in a safe manner
- Monitor the status of the incoming components of your molds and communicate as necessary with the purchasing team to verify you will have the components when required to meet delivery.
- Assemble the mold and to prepare it for testing. Verify fits and functionality of all mechanisms, sliding components, and cooling system. Complete inspections of the cores/cavities to verify proper seal offs, dimensions, and finish.
- Troubleshoot issues if they arise and develop plans to resolve. Make adjustments of final fits and components to ensure the mold will perform in testing and production. Document critical dimensions as required.
- Perform mold disassembly/assembly and machining tasks to develop/fine tune molds, repair molds, and make engineering changes. Assist others to complete mold cleaning and repairs.
- Participate in continuous improvements efforts to improve operations and mold making process.
- Maintain tooling inventory.
- Provide technical assistance to molding department and maintenance.
- Assure compliance to all molding area related procedures/policies.
- Technical Trade School Certification preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in machine tools, mold design & mold fabrication
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts with respect to part geometry & trigonometry. Ability to read blueprints.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with differing levels of authority and influence.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Dependable & self-directed to work with minimal supervision to independently complete work projects
- Proficient in MS Office Products (Word, Excel) and in ERP/MRP systems
- Basic Solidworks experience preferred
