Qualifications & Skills:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • CPR/AED certified.
  • Previous experience in school, pediatric or community health is desirable.
  • Communication with parents, teachers and staff.
  • Pediatric/Adolescent assessment.
  • Skills in time management and multitasking.

Essential Functions:

  • Administer temporary and emergency care procedures to ill and injured students and school personnel.
  • Administer medications to students at school according to policy and procedure.
  • Notify parents of illness or accident and secure medical care for students in emergency cases.
  • Manage suspected and diagnosed cases of infectious diseases.
  • Respect confidentiality related to personal health problems of students.
  • Report potential health/safety hazards to Director of Student Health Services.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, TEA standards and school policy in health services area.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Regularly works in standard office conditions and climate. • Regularly uses close and distance vision; ability to observe students from various distances. • Frequently required to move around the campus/classroom/playground. • Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 30lbs. across the campus/classroom/playground. • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students, fellow staff and community members.
