WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Director of Institutional Partnerships will work in partnership with the Chief Development Officer to manage the relationships and revenue in the areas of corporate, foundation, and government fundraising. The Director of Institutional Partnerships shall directly supervise the Associate Director of Institutional Communications and Institutional Partnerships Specialist. The Director of Institutional Partnerships will focus on strategies and tactics that increase philanthropic support and specifically lead approaches that will ambitiously grow corporate, foundation, government, and special event revenue, both for annual support and campaign support.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional and management experience
  • At least 5 years of front-line fundraising experience, with a strong focus on corporate fundraising and partnerships
  • Experience supervising staff is preferred
  • Passion for the arts is essential
  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends required

  • A successful track record in setting ambitious revenue goals and implementing the strategies and plans to achieve them. Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects and work effectively under pressure to achieve individual, team, and organizational goals, meeting or exceeding performance metrics and revenue targets.
  • Manages toward clarity, finds solutions, and thinks strategically.
  • A highly-motivated team player with a collaborative approach who can lead when needed while empowering teammates and colleagues to contribute their best. Personal commitment to employing and coaching industry-best practices.
  • Track record of personally securing corporate gifts and experience with foundation grant cycles and government funding processes.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, reliable and flexible with a positive attitude and collaborative spirit.
  • Effective and mature communicator able to convey ideas and strategies verbally and in writing. Excellent presentation skills. Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to listen to, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience using a CRM database (Tessitura preferred) and other technical resources effectively.
  • Knowledge and ability to speak confidently about the performing arts.
  • Comfort with serving as an ambassador for the organization at relevant community events.


Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervise the Corporate Giving and Foundation/Government Relations functions, with the goal of substantially growing philanthropic revenue from each area. Lead each team's work with existing funders and enhance efforts to prospect, qualify, and effectively engage a growing pipeline of new donors. Build a strong, collaborative, and productive team that shares in successes and works together to solve challenges. Currently, the combined revenue targets is $2-$3M, with an expectation that these revenue targets will grow over time.
  • Serve as a senior leader of the Development Department, collaborating with Chief Development Officer, Director of Strategic Philanthropy, and Director of Operations and Events to ensure comprehensive success of Arena's fundraising goals.
  • Develop and implement approaches that build, track, and monitor a growing number of prospects in the pipelines and build revenue opportunities to support our fundraising goals.
  • Closely track donor requirements, including reporting, compliance, financial management, programmatic deliverables, activation, and benefit fulfilment. Lead the team in providing frequent, tailored and professional updates to funders.
  • Lead and monitor team efforts to draft and finalize letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and corporate solicitation decks ensuring that proposals, budgets, and other materials are aligned with donor requirements and tailored to meet their priorities. Collaborate effectively with other departments at Arena Stage on proposal content.
  • Actively manage a portfolio of 30+ high-level institutional donors and prospects (mainly corporations).
  • Professionally support leadership staff and volunteers who may serve as ambassadors, door openers, relationship builders, and solicitors for Arena Stage.
  • Ensure that all giving data, strategies, gifts, correspondence, etc. is appropriately recorded and is consistent with departmental guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Physical Requirements:

Primarily administrative, balanced between sedentary and light work with occasional lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty pounds.
