We’re looking for a Sales Tax Specialist who’s not just a number cruncher—but a trusted advisor, a go-to expert, and a collaborative partner across departments. This is your chance to step into a role where your expertise directly impacts compliance, strategy, and efficiency.

What You’ll Do

As our in-house Sales Tax SME (Subject Matter Expert), you’ll be responsible for end-to-end sales and use tax compliance—from preparing accurate filings to navigating complex taxability questions across the U.S. You’ll work closely with finance, sales, and operations, ensuring tax accuracy and delivering best-in-class support.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance Champion

    • Prepare and file accurate sales & use tax returns—on time, every time.

    • Manage amended returns and track refunds.

    • Ensure CIP projects are taxed (or exempted) properly.

  • Tax Research & Analysis

    • Investigate and respond to tax notices and conduct internal audits.

    • Manage and validate customer exemption certificates.

    • Research taxability of products/services and guide process improvements.

  • Internal Training & Collaboration

    • Train and support Sales Tax Analysts.

    • Provide timely responses (within 3 days) to internal tax inquiries.

    • Build strong relationships across departments to ensure tax accuracy from quote to invoice.

  • Business License & Nexus Compliance

    • Maintain proper registrations for sales tax, business licenses, and property tax.

    • Oversee nexus evaluations and related filings.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in sales tax compliance.

  • Proficiency in tax/accounting software and Excel.

  • Strong communication skills to explain tax concepts clearly.

  • Detail-obsessed and deadline-driven.

  • Experience conducting tax research is a strong plus.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Rehrig Pacific, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $85,000.00 to $100,000.00.
