Job DescriptionJob Opportunity: Academic Intensivist
Our organization is seeking an academic Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, or Emergency Medicine Physician who holds subspecialty certification in critical care. The selected Intensivists will take charge of the multi-disciplinary Cardiovascular Surgical ICU (CVICU) team at our Heart Hospital located in Louisville, Kentucky. This specialized 17-bed closed unit caters to cardiac surgical patients, critically ill individuals needing mechanical circulatory support, heart, lung, and liver transplant recipients, as well as patients with unstable ascending aortic disease.
The CVICU team consists of physicians, non-physician providers, and a dedicated group of nurses, pharmacists, and therapists. Additionally, the unit frequently hosts medical students and post-graduate trainees from our School of Medicine, including fellows in Critical Care Anesthesiology and Acute Care/Trauma Surgery. There are ample opportunities for teaching, research, and scholarly activities, alongside clinical responsibilities in Surgery, Anesthesiology, or Emergency Medicine. The academic rank will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and interests. Faculty members of the CVICU are part of the Department of Surgery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the CVICU team in providing high-quality care to critically ill patients.
- Engage in teaching and mentoring medical students and trainees.
- Participate in research and scholarly activities.
- Contribute to clinical practice in Surgery, Anesthesiology, or Emergency Medicine.
Qualifications
- Board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Anesthesiology or the American Board of Surgery.
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in critical care.
- Active medical license in Kentucky.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Possession of an unrestricted DEA number.
