Medical Records Specialist (HIM)

M-F 9am-3:30pm (30hrs a week)

We are seeking a Medical Records Specialist to support the daily operations of our Health Information Management (HIM) department and nursing support services. This role works under the supervision of the Health Services Administrator and plays a critical part in maintaining accurate, secure, and compliant medical records while collaborating closely with clinical and administrative teams.

What You'll Do

  • Perform a variety of Health Information Management functions essential to daily operations
  • Support nursing services through accurate documentation and record maintenance
  • Ensure medical records are complete, accurate, and compliant with regulatory standards
  • Apply medical terminology appropriately in documentation and communication
  • Utilize standard office equipment and computer systems efficiently
  • Communicate professionally and tactfully with staff across departments
  • Maintain accountability for all written communication
  • Interact with residents and staff in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner

Communication & Professionalism

  • Work collaboratively as a team player across disciplines and departments
  • Read, write, and speak English clearly and professionally
  • Introduce yourself by name and address residents respectfully by name
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance in accordance with organizational dress and identification guidelines
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and professional communication skills

Education & Experience

  • Credentialed as a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Health Information Management or a related field
  • Proficient with:
    • Medical terminology
    • Office practices and procedures
    • Standard office machines and computer programs

  • Ability to function in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Capable of performing essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Maintain compliance with organizational health and safety requirements
