Job DescriptionSpecial Education Teacher – Primary Self-Contained Classroom (K–2)

2025–2026 Academic Year

We are looking for a caring and skilled Special Education Teacher to guide a self-contained classroom for kindergarten through second grade students with low-incidence disabilities, with a primary focus on autism. This full-time, school-year position provides the chance to shape meaningful learning experiences and help young learners reach their fullest potential.

As the classroom teacher, you will establish a supportive and predictable environment that nurtures academic growth, functional skills, and social development. You’ll design individualized education programs (IEPs), deliver targeted instruction aligned with each student’s strengths and needs, and monitor progress toward learning objectives. Collaboration will be central to your work—partnering with families, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to ensure students receive consistent, well-rounded support.

This role is best suited for an educator who is passionate about working with students on the autism spectrum and thrives in structured, student-focused settings. You will play a vital role in building a safe, inclusive classroom where children are encouraged to develop independence and confidence.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
  
• Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement (required).
  
• Experience supporting students with autism or working in low-incidence settings is highly preferred.
