Fire Protection Technician
Location: Onsite in Houston, TX
Salary: $35-50 per hour DOE
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Fire Protection Technician to install, inspect, test, maintain, and repair life-safety systems across commercial and industrial buildings and job sites. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with NFPA standards and Texas codes, work with fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers and backflow devices, respond to service calls, support projects from install through commissioning, and promote a strong safety culture on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, testing, inspection, maintenance and repair of fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers and backflow devices in accordance with NFPA standards and Texas Fire Marshal requirements.
- Execute preventive maintenance and routine service visits, troubleshoot system faults, diagnose problems and complete timely repairs to minimize downtime.
- Conduct annual, quarterly and monthly inspections and tests (including Pre-Action, wet, dry and deluge systems) and complete accurate documentation and reporting.
- Ensure all work meets applicable codes and standards including NFPA and Texas Fire Marshal regulations; prepare and maintain inspection, service and testing records for customers and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Respond to emergency service calls and provide timely on-site troubleshooting and corrective action.
- Coordinate scheduling with customers, project managers and other trades; support small project management tasks, material staging and job site logistics.
- Follow and enforce OSHA and company safety policies and procedures; maintain a clean, safe work environment and use required personal protective equipment.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools and inventory of parts and materials; order and track materials required for installs and service jobs.
- Communicate clearly with customers and internal teams, provide service recommendations, prepare estimates and explain system operation and maintenance requirements.
- Support training of junior technicians and apprentices; stay current with industry standards, code updates and manufacturer product changes.
Qualifications
- Required: Texas Fire Marshal Licenses in Fire Sprinkler, Fire Alarm and Fire extinguisher through Texas Department of Insurance.
- Understanding of National Fire Protection Associate (NFPA) and building fire codes.
- Experience installing, inspecting, testing and maintaining fire sprinkler, fire alarm and suppression systems in commercial or industrial settings.
- Ability to read plans and specifications, perform basic project management tasks, document work accurately and use common industry software for scheduling and reporting.
- Physical requirements: able to lift/move materials, work from ladders/scaffolding, and travel to multiple job sites.
- Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
