Position Summary

The Administrator is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, financial management, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth of the Ambulatory Surgery Center. This role ensures the facility operates efficiently, maintains high-quality patient care standards, supports physician relationships, and drives organizational success through effective management of staff, resources, and financial performance.

The Administrator serves as a key liaison between physicians, clinical leadership, staff, vendors, and external partners while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operations & Leadership

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to department leaders and staff.
  • Promote effective communication, teamwork, and employee engagement across all departments.
  • Oversee day-to-day facility operations to ensure efficiency, patient satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to ensure seamless operational workflows.
  • Coordinate facility tours and support physician onboarding activities.
  • Ensure all supplies, equipment, and resources are available to support surgical procedures.

Financial Management

  • Prepare, manage, and monitor annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Analyze financial performance, productivity metrics, and operational reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor revenue cycle performance, billing processes, collections, reimbursement trends, and payer relationships.
  • Control expenses and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality standards.
  • Support capital planning initiatives, including equipment purchases and facility improvements.
  • Review case costing, supply utilization, and vendor expenditures to maximize profitability.

Strategic Growth & Physician Relations

  • Develop and implement business growth strategies to increase surgical volume and expand service offerings.
  • Build and maintain strong physician partnerships to support satisfaction, engagement, and retention.
  • Recruit new physicians and coordinate credentialing activities.
  • Support contract negotiations and reimbursement initiatives with payers and physician partners.
  • Maintain regular communication with physicians to address operational concerns and identify growth opportunities.

Human Resources

  • Oversee staffing, workforce planning, recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and retention efforts.
  • Approve timecards, staffing schedules, and overtime as appropriate.
  • Partner with HR to administer policies, benefits, performance evaluations, credential tracking, and compliance requirements.
  • Foster a positive and productive workplace culture.

Quality & Compliance

  • Lead accreditation preparation, surveys, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Oversee Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and accreditation standards applicable to Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
  • Support infection prevention initiatives, policy development, and facility-wide compliance programs.
  • Maintain quality reporting and regulatory documentation.

Vendor & Supply Chain Management

  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service agreements.
  • Monitor supply inventory levels and purchasing practices.
  • Ensure GPO pricing compliance and optimize purchasing efficiencies.
  • Oversee service contract negotiations and vendor performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of advanced education in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of ambulatory surgery center operations, healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality programs.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Previous Ambulatory Surgery Center leadership experience.
  • Experience with financial management, budgeting, revenue cycle oversight, and physician relations.
