The Registered Nurse (R.N.) Unit Manager assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in the planning, direction and evaluation of total nursing care and functions of the Alzheimer's unit, in accordance with current Federal and State standards, guidelines and regulations and as may be required by the DON. The Unit Manager, R.N. serves as a member of Notre Dame Health Care's Long-Term Care and Skilled Rehabilitation Management team and has a 24-hour responsibility to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times in the Alzheimer's Unit, including oversite of personnel relations, visitor services and experience, and assistance to other departments and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. Unit Manager, R.N. is expected to supervise all shift operations and address any and all concerns, including personnel relations, workplace injuries, resident rights/abuse allegations, and clinical care matters in a timely manner. The Unit Manager is required to report any and all concerns timely to the Director of Nursing, or Assistant Director of Nursing. The Unit Manager, RN is required to communicate any relevant concerns or information to the Director of Nursing in a timely manner.

Must possess a working knowledge of state and federal guidelines, OSHA regulations, JCAHO standards, and facility policies.

2. Position requires regular weekend and holiday on-call rotation including answering facility phone calls and occasional reporting to facility to work nursing shift when nurse/aide staffing shortages require it.

3. Typical workday hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30PM. Employee within this position not expected to work paid holidays. Work schedule includes occasional nights, evenings, or weekends for training facilitation purposes.

4. Participate in a nursing department on-call rotation, including may be required to report to work in the event of staffing shortages/call outs, emergencies, or as needed.

5. Employee within this position is expected to work past their normal shift if facility has nursing call outs or staffing shortages.

6. Work schedule includes occasional weekday shifts/hours to attend meetings, trainings or attend clinical supervision with Director.

7. Prepared to work irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

8. During emergencies, may be required to work when not scheduled to do so.

Position is a physically demanding and high stress environment and requires 24-hour accountability.


  • Must hold and maintain a current RN license (MA).
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience, education, or specialty skills specific to geriatrics and memory care.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate understanding that state and Federal rules and regulations govern the practices within the facility.
  • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of infection control principles and practices.
