Job Overview
We are seeking a Lab Tech with experience in the medical field to work in our small but busy Pathology lab accessioning surgical specimens and performing a variety of administrative duties. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and experience in a pathology or oncology setting. This position is full-time, Monday thru Friday daytime.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform all duties according to CLIA, OSHA and HIPAA regulations
- Perform duties proficiently using Orchard LIS, EMR, Patient information system, and Microsoft Word programs
- Accession surgical pathology specimens according to lab procedures
- Answering and handling of incoming calls and faxes to the Pathology Lab
- Perform administrative lab duties including orders between our lab and outside labs & medical facilities (i.e. genetic and genomic tests orders, second opinions and consultations), shipping of slides and blocks, maintaining send out/receiving logs, and scanning reports into EMR
- Maintain equipment used and inventory of clerical admin supplies
- Maintain Quality Assurance documentation and logs as outlined in the Lab Procedure Manuals
- Participate in the review and updating of Admin/Clerical Lab Procedures (per CLIA regulations if applicable)
- Perform administrative duties for the Director of Lab Services and Pathologists/Lab Director as needed or other duties assigned
Requirements:
Required License/Experience/Skills
- Minimum education of an Associate’s in applied science.
- 1+ years’ work experience in a medical laboratory.
- Proficient computer skills w/ keyboarding and proficiency in Microsoft Office Word programs
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills needed to provide excellent customer service both within and outside of Urology of Virginia
- Strong interpersonal skills and a good team player to work closely with others
Preferred License/Experience/Skills
- Completion of a Medical Laboratory program at an accredited institution
- Experience in a pathology lab or oncology setting
- Previous use of Orchard LIS or Epic EMR
