JOB TITLE: Ultrasound Technologist DEPARTMENT: Imaging

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

Responsible to: Imaging Service Director

Responsible for: Not responsible for anyone

Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with department staff, all hospital

departments and the Medical Staff.

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and/or diagnostic imaging.

Responsible for the independent operation of sonographic and radiographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Must have experience in general, vascular, and/or cardiac ultrasound modalities.

Education: Graduate of an accredited school Radiologic Sciences.

Req. Cert./ Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology

Registration Current CPR/BLS Certification

Registry by ARDMS with one or more of the following credentials:

  • RDMS
  • RDCS
  • RVT


  1. Carriers out directives in a positive manner and accepts responsibility for follow-up.
  2. Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
  3. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
  4. Uses independent judgement during the sonographic examination to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
  5. Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the department.
  6. Takes quality radiographs as directed by practitioner.
    1. Aids and assists practitioners in techniques that require technical assistance.
    2. Operates the CT scanner efficiently (may be trained on the job after hire-on).
  7. Works scheduled hours yet is flexible with the schedule to meet the needs of the department. Provides service on-call in a rotation with other employees in the department.
  8. Assists in maintaining the department’s QI requirements
  9. Maintains proper safety precautions for patients and staff.
  10. Assists in scheduling patients for the department, both in-house and mobile services.
  11. Assists in charging the patient and ensuring that this is done correctly.
  12. Assists in maintaining equipment.
  13. Assists in maintaining the department’s filing system and shredding of papers, when indicated.
  14. Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
  15. Ensures for an effective, reliable consistent flow of information to and from other departments of the facility.
  16. Positively promotes NVCH throughout the facility and the community.
