JOB TITLE: Ultrasound Technologist DEPARTMENT: Imaging
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to: Imaging Service Director
Responsible for: Not responsible for anyone
Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with department staff, all hospital
departments and the Medical Staff.
JOB SUMMARY:
Provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and/or diagnostic imaging.
Responsible for the independent operation of sonographic and radiographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Must have experience in general, vascular, and/or cardiac ultrasound modalities.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school Radiologic Sciences.
Req. Cert./ Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
Registration Current CPR/BLS Certification
Registry by ARDMS with one or more of the following credentials:
- RDMS
- RDCS
- RVT
- Carriers out directives in a positive manner and accepts responsibility for follow-up.
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
- Uses independent judgement during the sonographic examination to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
- Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the department.
- Takes quality radiographs as directed by practitioner.
- Aids and assists practitioners in techniques that require technical assistance.
- Operates the CT scanner efficiently (may be trained on the job after hire-on).
- Works scheduled hours yet is flexible with the schedule to meet the needs of the department. Provides service on-call in a rotation with other employees in the department.
- Assists in maintaining the department’s QI requirements
- Maintains proper safety precautions for patients and staff.
- Assists in scheduling patients for the department, both in-house and mobile services.
- Assists in charging the patient and ensuring that this is done correctly.
- Assists in maintaining equipment.
- Assists in maintaining the department’s filing system and shredding of papers, when indicated.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
- Ensures for an effective, reliable consistent flow of information to and from other departments of the facility.
- Positively promotes NVCH throughout the facility and the community.
