JOB SUMMARY
The Teacher Assistant assists Teachers in providing quality childcare, ensuring a safe, healthy learning environment for children at the Oak Academy Center. Teacher Assistants may be assigned to a classroom or fill in for different classrooms when a substitute or additional person is needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists teachers with communications and interactions with children, parents, volunteers, and co-workers in a manner that will continue to advance a professional and effective program. Assists teachers in answering / addressing parents’ questions and concerns or refers to teachers for resolution.
- Assists Teachers in supervising children during inside activities and outside activities including field trips; monitors and ensures a safe environment for the children; works with teachers to nurture social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth and development during activities.
- Assists in maintaining childcare areas so they are neat and orderly; performs clean-up and set-up activities as requested; conducts light cleaning, sanitizing, laundry and food service duties.
- Assists teachers with daily lesson planning; assists with paperwork and preparing materials.
- Assists Teachers in maintaining classroom records and children’s files; updates work plans and forms as needed.
- Provides assistance to children during daily self-care routines by offering direction and support when needed; ensures and monitors the proper hygiene habits of the children.
- Follows infectious control guidelines emergency procedures as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
