New England Life Care currently has an opening for a Clinical Dietitian. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position that is expected to work 30 hours per week, with no weekends.

Job Summary: The person in this position is responsible for providing comprehensive nutritional services for NELC patients receiving home enteral or TPN therapy.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs nutrition assessments as required by NELC policies and procedures, making recommendations to physicians for changes in prescription as needed.
  • Develops, monitors and adjusts nutritional care plans for Enteral and TPN patients based on each patient’s individual needs and ongoing progress to goals.
  • Performs ongoing assessments of nutrition support patients via telephone follow-ups, assesses progress, and addresses nutritional problems or concerns. Accurately documents all assessments and indicators in patient’s clinical record within 24 hours of assessment.
  • Works collaboratively with clinical pharmacists to evaluate efficacy of TPN prescriptions while utilizing assessments and lab data. Makes appropriate recommendation for changes in formula to pharmacists / physicians.
  • Effectively communicates nutrition recommendations to all members of Nutritional Support Team.
  • Conducts monthly Nutrition Support Rounds on high risk ENT and TPN patients.
  • Assists in the development and promotion of nutrition services in conjunction with Branch management and other members of the Nutrition Support Team. Assists in the training of new members of the Nutrition Support Team, as well as other new NELC employees as needed.
  • Supports all NELC staff by acting as a resource for nutrition related questions or concerns.

Required Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from an accredited college / university required.
  • Completion of supervised dietetic internship at an accredited program required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in hospital or homecare nutrition services specifically with nutrition support patients required.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Dietitian license in state where employed (if applicable).
  • Registered dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration (or eligible to sit for the RD exam).
  • Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Joint Commission accreditation process and overall JC standards preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent nutritional assessment skills required.
  • Ability to analyze nutritional support formulas (Enteral and TPN) for appropriateness to patient’s needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all customers and at all levels of the NELC organization verbally and in writing required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team is required.
  • Working/practical knowledge of microcomputer systems including patient documentation systems.
