Principal Instrumentation & Controls Integration Architect
Job Description
Job DescriptionLead the orchestration of complex I&C systems
Picture your day as the technical linchpin on a large-scale plant technology program. In this 12-month contract, you’ll guide how advanced instrumentation and control (I&C) subsystems come together—aligning architecture, governing interfaces, and ensuring everything meets functional, safety, and cybersecurity objectives. You’ll work shoulder to shoulder with a multidisciplinary team, shaping plans, leading reviews, and validating that what’s built matches what was promised.
What a typical day might look like
- Start by refining the I&C system integration plan—mapping dependencies, risks, and milestones across the system lifecycle.
- Run an interface control working group to keep subsystem owners synchronized with the overall architecture.
- Facilitate a design integration review to confirm compliance with project requirements and engineering standards.
- Prepare and oversee acceptance testing and pre-operational validation, ensuring verification evidence is complete and traceable.
- Dig into a tricky integration issue spanning software baselines and plant controls—and drive it to resolution under formal change control.
- Update the requirements traceability matrix in IBM DOORS (or Polarion) to maintain end-to-end linkage from stakeholder need to verification artifact.
- Conduct a configuration audit, confirming documentation, diagrams, and software baselines remain consistent with the approved Configuration Management Plan.
- Package documentation to support regulatory reviews, certifications, and audits.
What you’ll deliver
- A living, enforceable I&C integration plan and interface control strategy.
- Clear alignment of system architecture with requirements and standards.
- Robust verification and validation evidence across all lifecycle phases.
- Disciplined requirements management and configuration control.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another STEM discipline.
- 10+ years in engineering, including 5+ in systems engineering.
- Fluency with engineering standards and quality frameworks.
- Hands-on expertise with requirements tools (e.g., IBM DOORS, Polarion) and configuration management systems.
- Background with digital control systems and automation platforms.
Additional proficiencies
- Bachelor's Degree
- Continuous Improvement
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Process Engineering
- Cyber Security Programs
- Analysis Programs
- Process Development
