Position Overview
The Non-QM Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and underwriting non-qualified mortgage loan applications. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with company policies and guidelines while assessing borrower creditworthiness and financial stability. This role is crucial in facilitating the approval of loans that fall outside the traditional agency guidelines, providing flexible financing options for a diverse range of borrowers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze loan applications and supporting documentation for non-QM loans
  • Assess borrower creditworthiness by evaluating credit reports, income sources, and financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and investor guidelines
  • Communicate with loan officers, borrowers, and other stakeholders regarding underwriting decisions and conditions
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with non-QM lending
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of underwriting decisions and processes
  • Stay updated on industry trends, guidelines, and best practices related to non-QM lending

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in mortgage underwriting, specifically in non-QM and non-agency loans
  • Strong understanding of non-QM mortgage products and guidelines
  • Proficient in using underwriting software and tools
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple loan files simultaneously
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of current mortgage regulations and compliance standards
