Job Description
The cook performs a variety of food service production activities, such as pre-preparation and preparation of hot and cold foods for patient services, retail, and catering operations, following all dietary requirements. This role involves properly handling and storing food per applicable regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prep and prepare food items by cutting, chopping, slicing, dicing, pureeing, marinating, and more.
- Wash, peel, cut, and seed vegetables/fruits, along with weighing and measuring designated ingredients.
- Follow standardized recipes, utilizing various cooking techniques such as sautéing, broiling, braising, blanching, baking, grilling, deep fat frying, and steaming.
- Properly chill and store foods in designated areas, following all labeling, dating, food safety guidelines, and rotation procedures.
- Ensure compliance with special dietary requirements, nutritional restrictions, allergens, modified textures, and other special dietary needs.
- Clean kitchen equipment, appliances, and work areas to ensure conformance to the highest level of sanitation.
- Prepare and cook meals to order using a ticket system, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely service.
- Perform line cook duties, including grilling, sautéing, baking, and assembling plates according to established standards.
- Serve food and interact courteously with patients and guests, answering basic questions and ensuring a positive dining experience.
- Provide customer service in a professional, friendly manner, maintaining a customer service-oriented approach at all times.
- Assist with tray line operations, assembling and organizing meal trays accurately and efficiently.
- Communicate with patients and staff in a respectful, clear, and helpful way when discussing meals or service needs.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, ensuring they are cleaned, sanitized, and properly stored.
- Perform general cleaning tasks, including wiping surfaces, cleaning equipment, and maintaining a neat and orderly kitchen.
- Sweep and mop floors regularly to maintain a safe and sanitary work area.
- Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Adapt quickly to changing needs in the kitchen and willingly assist with any task requested to support the team.
- Learn new processes and procedures quickly and apply them consistently in daily work.
Essential Skills
- Experience as a line cook, food prep, chef, or in food production and foodservice.
- Ability to prepare and cook meals to order using a ticket system.
- Proficiency in grilling, sautéing, baking, and assembling plates.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a hospital or similar healthcare environment is beneficial.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing needs and support the team effectively.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr.
