Job Title: Medical Assistant (MA)
Locations: Must be willing to travel to multiple SGS clinic locations, including West, NW, and SW metro.
Position Purpose: The Clinical Assistant will manage the patient flow throughout the clinic and assist providers in the management and treatment of their patients, individualizing care to the needs of the patient. The Clinical Assistant will also provide telephone support and facilitate communication between patients and providers. The Clinical Assistant takes direction from the Clinic Supervisor, Director of Operations and providers.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
· Conforms to clinic’s Clinical Assistant policies, protocols and guidelines
· Demonstrates proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills lists
· Performs multiple duties including but not limited to vitals, assisting with in-clinic procedures, chart review, referral processing, patient education, appointment scheduling, patient form completion, and daily and weekly clinic maintenance.
· Ensures exam rooms are prepared for exam and follows the standard rooming procedure when rooming patients
· Assists patients in multiple methods of communication such as over the telephone, in person, and through the patient portal. The medical assistant will collect information and transmit that information to a provider so that the provider can make a decision about patient care. May give the provider’s advice to the patient. However, the Clinical Assistant cannot perform telephone triage. Notifies patient of test and procedure results under provider direction.
· Assists with prescription refills under the supervision of the provider according to the Clinic Medication Refill Policy
· Assists providers with minor procedures including but not limited to room setup and cleanup, specimen collection, suture, staple, and drain removal as directed by the provider, wound management including packing and dressing changes as directed by the provider
· Provides preoperative teaching education to include scheduling expectations and explanation of handout materials
· Reception/Front Desk Functions for offsite locations: Provides schedule and patient demographics to the offsite check-in staff to include the information needing to be collected. The medical assistants are responsible for collecting and returning all documents to the administrative team members at Maple Grove for processing.
· Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals
Compliance:
1. Recognizes and complies with legal regulatory, accrediting and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility
2. Protects patient and team member privacy and only accesses patient and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties
3. Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication
Basic Qualifications:
Position/Title: Clinical Assistant (MA)
Educational Requirements: High school degree with additional formal training or education with completion from an approved Medical Assistant course or Licensed Practical Nurse course.
Prior Work Experience:. A minimum of one year of experience in a clinic setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The following special skills or areas of expertise are required of this position:
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in an efficient manner
Knowledge of and skill in using computer software applications
Travel using personal vehicle to various local work sites is required
Must posses current drivers license in the state of residency
Must be current on BLS
