Job Description
The Yard Technician role is a hands-on, entry-level position that introduces you to the full process and trade of working with mobile trailers. You support daily yard and shop operations by moving materials and equipment, staging and organizing inventory, and assisting with set up tasks. This position offers a clear pathway to grow into a Set Up Technician role while you gain experience in construction-related work, furniture installation, and general mechanical tasks.
Responsibilities
- Move materials and equipment safely around the storage yard and within the shop.
- Load and unload trucks efficiently while following safe lifting and handling practices.
- Stage materials and equipment in designated areas to support upcoming projects and installations.
- Build and install furniture inside mobile trailers and other units as needed.
- Use hand and power tools to perform basic carpentry, repair, and general construction tasks.
- Assist with basic mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing-related tasks under supervision, as appropriate to your skills.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard and shop environment.
- Operate vehicles and yard equipment responsibly, following all safety and driving guidelines.
- Demonstrate a “do it all” attitude by supporting other team members and taking on a variety of tasks as required.
- Use basic computer skills to support daily operations, such as updating records or accessing work instructions.
- Occasionally visit customer sites to assist with yard-related tasks and equipment movement, as needed.
Essential Skills
- Carpentry skills with the ability to perform basic construction and repair tasks.
- Familiarity with construction trades and general labor work.
- Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn equipment operation and basic repairs.
- Basic understanding of electrical, HVAC, and plumbing concepts as they relate to construction and mobile trailers.
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions while performing physical tasks.
- Current valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Basic computer knowledge to support daily work activities.
- Strong work ethic and a proactive, “do it all” attitude.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work both independently and as part of a team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- HVAC technician skills are a plus and may support future growth opportunities.
- Prior experience in a yard, warehouse, construction, or similar environment is beneficial.
- Ability to build and install furniture in mobile units.
- Experience loading and unloading trucks and moving heavy materials safely.
- Willingness to learn and develop skills to progress into a Set Up Technician role.

Work Environment
You primarily work at a yard location, spending much of your time outdoors moving materials and equipment around the storage yard and working inside the shop. You may occasionally travel to customer sites to assist with yard and equipment-related tasks. The role is physically active and involves regular use of hand and power tools, as well as exposure to the elements in various weather conditions. Standard hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional Saturdays during peak seasons. The environment is construction-oriented and safety-focused, where practical, work-appropriate attire suitable for outdoor and hands-on tasks is expected.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wayland, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
