Med-Surg/Telemetry RN – 5 Pavilion Travel Contract Breakdown
Unit Overview
- Unit: 5 Pavilion (5P) – Med-Surg/Telemetry
- Beds: 32
- Patient Population: Adult & Geriatric
- Specialties:
- Orthopedics (Hips, Knees, Shoulders)
- Urology
- Post-Operative Surgical Patients
- General Medical Patients
Experience Requirements
✅ Travel experience required
✅ Experience caring for:
- Post-operative patients
- Orthopedic patients
- Medical-surgical patients
- Telemetry patients
Preferred
- Cardiac drip experience
- Charge Nurse experience (traveler may be asked to serve as Charge and can be cross-trained)
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios
- RN: 1:6
- CNA: 1:10
Telemetry
- Remote telemetry monitoring by Monitor Techs (24/7)
- Charge RN reviews telemetry strips
- Basic telemetry interpretation skills recommended
Drips
Titration Required: Yes
Common Drips:
- Heparin (protocol-driven)
Preferred Experience:
- Cardiac drips
Schedule
12.5-hour shifts
- Days: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Nights: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
Weekly Hours
- 3 shifts/week = 37.5 hours/week
Scheduling
- Block scheduling available
- Manager creates schedule
- Requests considered based on unit needs
Weekend & Holiday Requirements
Weekends
- Every other weekend
- Fixed rotation:
- Weekends 1 & 3 OR
- Weekends 2 & 4
Holidays
- Rotating with permanent staff
- Manager attempts to avoid assigning the same holidays worked the previous year
Floating Requirements
Primary Float Units:
- 3 Pavilion (Med-Surg)
- 4 Pavilion (Med-Surg)
Additional Floating:
- Emergency Department boarders when needed
Float Order
- Float Pool
- Staff rotation
- Travelers rotate fairly (not always first to float)
Equipment Used
- CPAP
- BiPAP
- IV Pumps
- Pulse Oximetry
- Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs)
Leadership & Support
- Charge Nurse typically carries only 2 patients
- May be free charge when staffing allows
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- CNAs available on unit
Orientation
- Hospital Orientation
- Nursing Orientation
- Computer Training
- Two 12-hour shifts with preceptor
- Skills checklist due within 90 days
Dress Code
RN/LPN: Navy Blue
CNA/Monitor Tech: Dark Grey/Pewter
Requirements:
- Solid-color scrubs only
- No patterns or embroidery
- Closed-toe shoes required
- No Crocs
