The medical surgery scheduler plays a crucial role in assisting patients with organizing their upcoming surgical appointments. This employee ensures that the patient's pre-operative, operative, and post-operative appointments are coordinated effectively by scheduling appointments, liaising with surgical centers, managing insurance authorizations, and fulfilling any other necessary duties. This position is dedicated to facilitating a seamless process for all parties involved, recognizing that the stress of surgery can be overwhelming for patients. Providing a single point of contact to guide patients through this challenging period is essential for their overall well-being.
Compensation:
$17.50 - $25 hourly
Responsibilities:
- Helps prepare patient charts for surgery center including insurance checks, obtaining authorizations, completing all paperwork, and verifying results are on file when required and confirming scheduling is appropriate for the clinic and surgery setting
- Collecting payments for all surgical procedures
- Schedules testing and procedures for patients as necessary
- Comforts patients by answering any questions they may have within the scope of their role
- Expedites patient processing by having them fill out forms and assisting when needed
- Obtains patient identification and insurance information and entering into electronic health record
- Schedules outside clearance and follows up with clearance records
- Maintains patient accounts by verifying insurance information and coordinating with relevant organizations for payment and referral requirements
- Ensures a dilated exam is completed 30-90 days (about 3 months) prior to surgery date
- Protects patients’ right of confidentiality; it is mandatory to have familiarity with HIPAA
- Willing to train
- Completing all tasks in a timely manner
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 months of Front Desk experience
- Insurance verification and understanding
- Organizational skills are crucial
- Possess high energy, have a positive & professional attitude.
- Strong communication skills with a team player approach.
- Critical time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to interact with healthcare professionals, patients, and insurance companies alike with poise and proper etiquette.
- Adhere to ongoing training and education
- Demonstrate effectiveness showing courtesy, diligence, integrity, and teamwork
- Strong interpersonal skills (effective listening, clear communication, effective customer problem resolution, warm demeanor)
- Willing to train
- Ability to lift more than 30lbs
- Frequent use of a computer terminal, keyboard, and mouse
- Manual dexterity to operate ophthalmic equipment
- May fill in with other front desk responsibilities as designated
