OVERVIEW
The Senior Director of Business Operations oversees the strategic and operational management of the organization's Store Operations, IT and Human Resources (HR) functions. This role is critical in ensuring alignment between operational activities and the organization’s mission. As a leader, this position focuses on driving operational excellence, promoting a collaborative culture, and contributing to the organization’s financial sustainability. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director and assist in managing Executive and Board specific communication, Board of Directors and other department leaders to meet the short- and long-term goals and needs of the organization, and to enhance the mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Collaboration
- Oversee HR, IT and Store Operations to achieve results in line with organizational goals.
- Partner with department heads to identify opportunities for operational improvements and to create a cohesive strategy that integrates across departments.
- Act as a key advisor to the Executive Director on issues related to operational efficiency, human resources, and thrift store operations.
- Foster a collaborative culture that enables cross-functional teams to work together towards shared objectives.
Financial Management
- Oversee the HR and Stores Dept financial reporting and support the Chief Financial Officer to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including the preparation of financial statements.
- Support the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, collaborating with department heads to align Store, HR, and IT budgets with strategic priorities.
- Optimize resources while ensuring the organization meets its financial commitments.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, provide insights, and make recommendations for cost-saving measures and revenue-generating opportunities.
Human Resources Oversight
- Empower and support the HR leadership in implementing initiatives that foster a welcoming, and supportive work environment for all employees.
- Provide the necessary tools, resources, and strategic guidance to further the effectiveness of the HR function.
- Ensure alignment of HR strategies with overall business goals to promote a positive and productive workplace culture
Store Operations Management
- Oversee the operations of retail stores, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and financial goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve store performance
- Work closely with the Director of Stores and Store Managers to set performance targets and provide support in meeting sales and operational goals.
- Implement best practices in retail operations to enhance efficiency and profitability while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Executive/Board Communication
- Oversee the preparation for Board meetings by EA
Oversee Information Technology (IT) systems
- Plan for system modernization and manage budget for IT systems
- Empower the IT Coordinator(s) to maintain system capabilities, troubleshoot, and resolve system outages quickly while minimizing costs.
Corporate Liability
- Serve as the primary Council POC for corporate liability.
- Oversee the annual renewal of insurance policies, including property, vehicle, flood, officer misconduct, workers compensation and cyber insurance coverage.
- Support Conference requirements for any insurance coverage
Team Leadership & Development
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for direct reports, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Help support a customer service-oriented mindset across HR, and Store Operations teams, emphasizing the importance of both internal and external stakeholders.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field preferred, or equivalent experience
- Ten (10) years of related experience that included supervisory and P&L responsibility
- Experience in the non-profit sector is highly desirable.
- Experience in thrift operations is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of leading, developing teams and driving overall operational excellence.

Physical:
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear
- Occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Frequent local travel to Stores, Conference and District sites
