WHO WE ARE
The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is the association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies. Our members provide electricity for nearly 250 million Americans and operate in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. As a whole, the electric power industry supports more than 7 million jobs in communities across the United States. In addition to our U.S. members, EEI has more than 65 international electric companies, with operations in more than 90 countries, as International Members, and hundreds of industry suppliers and related organizations as Associate Members.
This is a hybrid position which requires the incumbent to reside in the District of Columbia metropolitan area and come into the office a minimum of four days each week, Monday through Thursday.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS INTERN
EEI is looking to add a bright, resourceful, and organized intern to our Government and External Affairs team.
Important responsibilities of the Intern include:
- IRA Tracking
- Identify and document statements from members of Congress regarding the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), both supportive and opposed
- Track meetings and engagements conducted by member company CEO’s and lobbyists and identify additional meetings needed to be conducted
- Assist with preparing briefing materials for Congressional fly-ins on wildfires
- Executive Order Tracking
- Monitor and document executive orders and analyze their impact to our industry
- Update executive order tracker as new orders are issued
- Congressional Hearing Coverage
- Attend and summarize congressional hearings relevant to our industry
- Event Coordination
- Assist with planning, organizing, and setting up events
- Directory Updates
- Update the Congressional Directory and Washington Reps directory as needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have or be working towards a bachelor’s degree in political science or a similar degree. Specifically, EEI is looking for a candidate with:
- Ability to work independently and on a deadline
- Experience providing support to groups in a professional environment
- Strong organizational skills and experience with MS Office
- Excellent communication skills and strong team player
- Ability to work effectively with a broad range of staff and external stakeholders.
In addition, the candidate must be willing to occasionally work extended hours.

COMPENSATION
The hourly rate for this role is $20.00.
