Cost Accountant
The Carpet Shoppe is a leading provider of floor covering in the Greater Springfield, MO area and just celebrated our 55th anniversary. We are looking for a cost accountant to collaborate with other team members in the company to provide financial and accounting support to executives and department heads
*Pay commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Cost Analysis and Reporting: Perform detailed analysis of project costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead expenses. Prepare and distribute timely, accurate project cost reports, forecasts, and financial analyses for management.
· Job costing in software specific to the flooring industry. This involves managing and analyzing project-specific financial data RFMS Core.
o Invoicing and Billing: Process job costing, handling change orders, claims, and ensuring proper alignment of inventory and order lines for accurate invoicing.
· Collecting and analyzing data about a company’s operational costs.
· Carrying out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis for small businesses.
· Establishing costs of business processes, labor, shipping, etc.
· Ensuring accurate cost allocation, reporting on profitability, and supporting management decisions.
· Performing account reconciliations.
· Preparing audit reports and presenting their findings to management.
· Recommendations to make changes to the company’s processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit.
· Advising executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data.
· Budgeting and Variance Identification: Monitor and review project budgets, comparing actual costs against budgeted amounts to identify and investigate discrepancies or variances.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
· Analytical and detail-oriented professional with experience in accounting or cost analysis.
· Understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
· Strong financial analysis and problem-solving skills.
· Effective communication, including writing, speaking and active listening.
· Must be proficient in MSO products.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration preferred but not required. Finance, or a related business field is typically required.
