Job Description

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for setting up, troubleshooting, and performing preventative maintenance on contact heat and preheat thermoforming machines and support equipment. This includes case tapes, Big the person, and Yushin stackers. The technician may also be required to operate machinery when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install tooling and perform set-ups, as well as corrective and preventative maintenance on thermoforming machines and auxiliary equipment, such as grinders, vacuum pumps, motors, gear boxes, and hoists.
  • Conduct mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify causes of defects and troubleshoot problems.
  • Identify, retrieve, and replace machine components from the stockroom; create and fulfill orders via a cloud-based parts management system.
  • Escalate issues to a setup technician, recognizing the source and scope of problems and communicating effectively.
  • Comply with the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Policy and applicable regulatory and company EH&S rules. Report unsafe conditions or practices to supervision for prompt resolution.
  • Attend scheduled EH&S training programs and actively support efforts to meet or exceed EH&S goals and plans.
  • Recommend improved EH&S practices and maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Follow product safety and quality standards, ensuring safe work habits and adherence to general safety procedures.
  • Ensure lockout procedures are followed any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Preventive maintenance skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to read and understand written documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Logical reasoning with the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram forms.
  • Mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and fractions, along with understanding of the metric system.
  • Technical skills, including the ability to use calipers, tape measure, protractors, pressure gauges, and temperature thermocouples.
  • Proficiency in using a cloud-based parts management system (NexGen) to create and execute work orders.
  • High school diploma or GED. Vocational technical community college, or formal military mechanical and/or technical training is a plus.
  • Previous mechanical or electrical experience preferred, with experience in thermoforming, extrusion machinery, or packaging equipment highly desired.

Work Environment

Work involves interacting with thermoforming machines and auxiliary equipment, requiring adherence to safety protocols such as proper lifting, ergonomics, and use of personal protective equipment. The role includes compliance with Environmental Health and Safety standards and regular attendance at training sessions. Technological proficiency with cloud-based systems is essential.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shelton, Connecticut.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.75 - $28.50/hr.
