Highlights

This academic faculty role includes an appointment at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and offers a comprehensive three-year cardiovascular training program within a quaternary care center. Physicians will gain full-spectrum exposure across various specialties, including cardiovascular imaging, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, heart failure, adult congenital heart disease, cardio-oncology, vascular medicine, women's cardiovascular health, sports cardiology, and a nationally recognized center of excellence for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The program is based at a hospital with approximately 900 beds, with a new state-of-the-art facility set to open in 2027, and includes dedicated time for research and electives.

The Program Director (PD) will oversee the administration and educational supervision of fellows in the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship, adhering to the policies and procedures of our organization. The PD will manage the initial accreditation process through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and ensure ongoing compliance with ACGME standards.

  • Foster an educational environment that meets ACGME competency areas

  • Develop, review, and update the didactic curriculum

  • Ensure compliance at participating training sites

  • Lead recruitment, assessment, and promotion of fellows, and participate in education- and program-related committees

  • Provide continuous faculty development and improvement opportunities

  • Mentor and guide fellows

  • Oversee the duties of the program coordinator

Training and/or Experience Required

  • MD/DO degree

  • Current Medical License in good standing with the North Carolina Medical Board

  • Current certification in Cardiovascular Disease from the American Board of Internal Medicine

  • Three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience in an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency or Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

  • Active clinical practice and ongoing academic contributions in cardiovascular disease, which may include publications, educational program development, or research

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities

  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for fellowship program administration

** The educational/administrative experience can be as an associate program director, core faculty member, faculty member, or subspecialty education coordinator for an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency program, or as program director, associate program director, core faculty member, or faculty member for an ACGME-accredited internal medicine subspecialty program.
