We have a tremendous opportunity for an experienced commercial lender. Our client, a successful, growing regional bank is looking for a Commercial Lending Team Leader. As this bank continues to expand, they are looking for someone to handle the complex commercial relationships and coach and mentor the other commercial lenders. Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the EVP, Chief Lending Officer, the Commercial Lending Team Leader, is responsible for soliciting and servicing prospective customers producing a variety of commercial loans as well as generating and managing a portfolio of business and corresponding relationships, while seeking new accounts through calling efforts, marketing, and referrals. The incumbent will work closely with commercial lenders to assist the overall goals of the Commercial lending department.

Essential Functions:

Commercial Loan Origination & Portfolio Management :

  • Actively solicit, develop, and maintain a diversified portfolio of commercial loan relationships, including C&I, commercial real estate, and other business loans.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, community involvement, and referrals from existing clients and internal partners.
  • Analyze applicants' financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine feasibility of granting loans.
  • Submit credit requests and appropriate financial information to credit analysts to determine creditworthiness of applicant.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of loan agreements, ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and sound lending principles.
  • Prepare and present detailed loan proposals and credit memos to loan committees, articulating the credit story and recommending approval or denial.
  • Monitor loan repayment activities, ensure timely collection of payments, and proactively manage portfolio risk.
  • Identify and address potential problem loans, working collaboratively with credit administration and workout specialists as needed.
  • Cross-promote other bank products and services to commercial clients to deepen relationships and expand the bank’s footprint.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of Commercial Lenders, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and results-driven environment.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and professional development to team members, ensuring their continuous growth in commercial lending practices, credit analysis, and relationship management.
  • Oversee the allocation of leads and territories within the team to maximize efficiency and achieve collective goals.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex lending scenarios, credit challenges, and client issues.

Here is what our client requires:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a commercial lender
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing a team of lenders is required.
  • Strong leadership skills, able to develop high performing teams that are proactive in nature
  • Ability to work with sophisticated borrowers and handle more complex relationships
  • A history of meeting/exceeding production goals
  • Solid understanding of credit along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and to prioritize multiple tasks
