Job DescriptionJob Title: Ophthalmic Technician

Location: New York, NY

Job Type: Contract (8 Weeks)

Pay: $36–$40/hr (Locals) | $44–$49/hr (Travelers)

Assignment Details:

  • Shift: Day Shift
  • Schedule: 5 x 8-hour shifts (40 hours/week)
  • Weekend Requirement: As per facility needs
  • Holiday Requirement: As per facility needs
  • Onsite: 100% (No remote work)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to support physicians and deliver high-quality patient care in a fast-paced outpatient eye care setting. This role involves performing diagnostic testing, assisting with clinical procedures, and ensuring efficient patient flow.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preliminary ophthalmic testing including visual acuity, visual fields, tonometry, color vision, and ocular motility
  • Assist physicians with patient flow, documentation, and clinical support
  • Obtain and document patient medical and ocular history
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Clean, sterilize, and set up ophthalmic instruments and equipment
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot ophthalmic equipment (e.g., slit lamp, tonometer, keratometer)
  • Coordinate imaging, lab work, and surgical scheduling as needed
  • Maintain inventory and stock clinical areas with necessary supplies
  • Educate patients regarding procedures and provide reassurance
  • Assist with minor procedures, laser treatments, and in-office surgeries

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ophthalmic Technician Certification required
  • Prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician preferred
  • Experience in ophthalmology or outpatient specialty clinics preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment
